"The Ritz Paris is a museum in itself."

   - Mohamed Al Fayed

Coco Chanel made it her home, famed French author Marcel Proust found inspiration in it; Charlie Chaplin, Greta Garbo and Marlene Dietrich all stayed there; The Ritz Paris has an undeniable je ne sais quoi.

Established in 1898 by the great Frenchman César Ritz, the palatial Parisian hotel was loved by all who saw it. Time took its toll, however, and by 1979, when Mohamed Al Fayed purchased the lease, the once most talked about hotel in Paris had diminished in both style and reputation.

Back in vogue
An extensive renovation programme was begun. Nine years later it was complete, and the results were breathtaking. Resplendent in its furnishings and boasting popular new services such as the Ritz Health Club and the Ritz Escoffier Cooking School, it raised its profile to a new level. The Ritz Paris was, and remains, back in vogue.
