"The work of Great Ormond Street
Hospital is fantastic. If it wasn't for
its staff, my son Karim could have
  lost his life to meningitis."

                             - Mohamed Al Fayed

Meningitis afflicts more than 3,000 people every year; there is no cure.

When Mohamed Al Fayed’s new born newborn son Karim was diagnosed with the disease, he sought the best help around: he went to Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH).

A pledge of support
Impressed by the care his son received, Mr Al Fayed pledged his support. On discovering the hospital lacked the funds for a vital piece of equipment – a magnetic resonance image scanner which captures detailed internal images of the human body – he took action.

Mr Al Fayed ordered the £6 million scanner to GOSH’s precise specifications and has since provided sustained support through the machine’s subsequent upgrades. Every year the scanner is used to help hundreds of desperately ill children. His support to date makes him the biggest single donor to GOSH, an achievement that was recognised in September 2007 when GOSH made him a Friend of Adeona – the highest form of recognition the hospital can bestow upon those who have made the most significant contribution to their work.

What you can do
Donations of clothes, donations in kind, and regular cash donations make an enormous difference. Find out more: http://www.gosh.org/donate/index.html.
