Roy Hodgson can restore Fulham’s glory
Roy Hodgson can restore Fulham’s glory
I am delighted to welcome Roy Hodgson to Fulham. He’s a determined man, with strong leadership skills, and I have every confidence Roy can combine the best of Premier League play with the elegance and professionalism of the continental game. I can understand some concerns regarding his long absence from the Premier League, but his success at both club and international level - Switzerland, Finland and Inter Milan - is no fluke; Roy is a shrewd judge who will be savvy in his buying of players, using his extensive experience to select a team that will work well for us and give us every chance of securing our Premier League status.
A points game
I can’t pretend Roy’s job will be easy. Over the past year we’ve taken on many new players and under Roy’s guidance they will be able to combine their individual talents as a team and play a more structured, organised game that will see Fulham claim some healthy wins. I will, of course, make sure Roy has the money to attract the type of quality players we need to help us improve our game and remain a permanent Premier League fixture.
The problematic second half
We seem to have no problem in scoring first; in fact if we finished our games after the first half, rather than playing the second, we’d be 4th in the league. However, by the second half we seem to fall into difficulties, conceding goals and lacking the dynamism and spirit to regain our lead. Roy’s extensive coaching history and fantastic track record of guiding teams to success will undoubtedly see our fortunes take a turn for the better. The addition of playing personnel to add the necessary balance throughout the squad will be a huge factor in this.
A year of rejuvenation
The Youth team and the Reserves have shown great form with players like Elliot Omozusi coming through the ranks; he has played three times for Fulham and is a hot prospect for the Club. The reserves are fifth in the league thanks to great goal-scoring talents like Ishamel Ehui and we have seen Moritz Volz return to full fitness and re-join the First Team squad.
The fans have been terrific over the last year. Together with Roy’s commitment and the fans’ unwavering support, 2008 will see us will build a winning formula and prove all our critics wrong.
Come on you Whites!
