One of the most exciting finds at the Villa occured in 1988, two years after the restoration of the Villa Windsor had begun, when the mahogany lid covering the bathtub in the Duke's bathroom was lifted to reveal a hoard of some 10,000 photographs. Some were family snapshots, others were professional portraits by leading photographers such as Cecil Beaton and Dorothy Wilding.
