Fulham’s Superb Victory Against Juventus
What a show! Fulham's phenomenal result came as we gave one of our finest ever performances. I am very proud of Fulham Football Club.
19 March 2010 Roy Hodgson has been working hard with the boys since last week to build on our attack and tighten things up at the back after we uncharacteristically conceded 6 goals in two games. He's done such a good job we can now outshine one of the best teams in European football.
Focused on reversing Juventus's success from our away game with them last week, our reaction to their early goal showed great character and made sure it did not put out our fiery spirit.
Bobby Zamora played an impeccable game, quickly equalising with Juventus following their early goal. 2-1 at half time was no less than we deserved, and we started the second half where we left off, leading the way with an unstoppable attack. With Fabio Capello watching from the stands, Zamora's performance must surely have strengthened his case for making the England squad.
Juventus tried to put up a good defence, but we were too strong. Nothing could hold us back. Great teamwork by Zamora and Simon Davies gave Zoltan Gera the opportunity to score our second goal, which he followed with a third after we were awarded a penalty in the second half.
When Clint Dempsey's stunning chip sealed our victory with a monumental fourth goal, pushing Juventus out of the Europa League and securing our place in the quarter finals, excitement amongst the fans reached fever pitch. This is a night the players and the fans will remember as the day we beat the Italian giants Juventus at the Cottage.
We have beaten many top quality teams to reach the Europa League quarter finals; it is an amazing achievement. And, with our 5-4 aggregate victory, we are well on our way to the top!
Come on you Whites!
