Michael Mansfield at Harrods
I was delighted to welcome Michael Mansfield to Harrods earlier this month to sign copies of his book, 'Memoirs of a Radical Lawyer'.
The timing could not have been more appropriate – his arrival being high noon – for the best legal gunslinger this old town has ever seen.
I have known him for many years, because he represented me in the inquests into the deaths of my son Dodi and Diana. He believed wholeheartedly that their deaths were not an accident. And there is no doubt that if ever a cause was in need of a courageous champion, it could do no better than call for Michael.
Now he’s written his memoirs, and about time too. I should point out though, that since I made him famous, he’s almost as big as his reputation for fearlessness, integrity and compassion for the sufferer of injustice. And Michael is such a clever QC, he doesn’t need a wig, as he’s grown his own!
The last QC who even graced Michael’s league was the diminutive George Carmen. Sadly, he’s not with us any more, but Michael is, and larger than life. Both men fought for me, with passion and intelligence.
You may have read some excerpts from Michael’s memoirs in The Times newspaper, and seen coverage in all the national newspapers including the Daily Mail and The Express. If you have, you’ll have been reminded of the phenomenal list of great cases he has defended.
So I don’t need to tell you to buy the book. I know you will - it's on sale now at Waterstones in Harrods on the 3rd floor.
