Letter from Nicola...

I wanted to contact you after speaking to a young boy who has had treatment at Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Myself and my family went to a gathering for those who are terminally ill with different illnesses - I agreed to go for my two children who are 13 and 14 years of age, as i thought it would be comforting for them to meet others who was also living knowing their mother would pass away. During the day we met a family with a young boy who was terminally ill like myself. After playing games with my two children I spoke with his family, and passed comment about how brave they all were. They also saw my side, as a mother being unwell and leaving your children which has put me on a rollercoaster of emotions. Everyone there understood each others sadness.

He told us that you have helped him in many ways by supporting the hospital and the things you did for them all at Christmas, like inviting them to Harrods. His little face lit up when telling us his stories. We, as a family, had no idea that you made such a difference to peoples lives; people really are able to live their dreams whilst fighting illnesses thanks to you and your kindness. We cant find the words to tell you what an amazing thing you do. I really wish we had things like this happen in my hospital as I know I am 37 years and not a child, but I have had cancer since i was 26 years and it's all my children and husband have ever known. It would have been lovely to have had special things happen to create memories of happiness that can always be cherished. Thank you for helping people Mr Al Fayed.
