Email from a Fulham Fan
This is a letter that I have been meaning to write to you for years. I feel very guilty that I haven't written to you before now actually. The recent coverage about the Michael Jackson statue has prompted me to do this.
Firstly, as far as I (and all of my Fulham supporting friends and family) am concerned you can put a statue of anyone one you like at Fulham, without you I doubt there would still be a Fulham FC, at least not the Fulham that we all know and love today. As you said, if anyone has a real problem with this they can go and support Chelsea! Actually, I think Michael's statue is a very "Fulhamish" thing, the club has always had character, has attracted characters and is "different", it always has been.
Anyway Mr Al Fayed, the real reason for me writing to you is to thank you and share something with you.
I would like to thank you for what you have done for Fulham Football Club. Fifteen years ago I could never ever have imagined Fulham in the Premiership in my wildest, wildest dreams. It's incredible, I still find it incredible and I always will. The Europa cup run and those magnificent games were the stuff of dreams, we were "oh so close" and I don't think Fulham have yet received true recognition for this achievement, Liverpool, Man City...both knocked out of Europa cup this season.
My son has never known anything but a successful Fulham, he is even fussy about the games he goes to now (only interested currently in the big games...Man Utd, Chelsea etc). I know he will grow out of this. I hope he has the same memories of "place & people" that I do. I look around Craven Cottage and see where my grandad used to stand, where my Dad used to stand with me..where my Uncles used stand...it's incredibly evocative. I hope my son will have the same type of fond memories that I have when he is my age.
Anyway, thank you again so much for all that you have done for Fulham, you must be the best loved and liked chairman in the history of the club. I hope that you realise how "LOVED" you are by Fulham's fans. You really are.
With my best wishes
Sean
